THE WAY, WAY BACK - Trailer

A funny thing happened at last year's Oscar ceremony, when the man previously known as "the guy who plays the creepy Dean in Community"  stood up, collected his Best Adapted Screenplay Oscar for The Descendants and flashed a bit of leg. A star was born.

As well as returning to his signature role on Community, the Dean, AKA Jim Rash, has kept busy (along with his creative partner Nat Faxon who bagged an Oscar along side him) by directing The Way, Way Back; a coming of age tale starring Steve Carell and Sam Rockwell.

Nothing to do with The Way Back, the Colin Farrell/Jim Sturgess prison escape drama from a few years ago, this film tells the story of Duncan, a typically shy teen who is forced to accompany his mother to her boyfriend's beach house where he meets pretty, cool girl AnnaSophia Robb. So far so Youth in Revolt, but the trailer also shows a healthy dose of Adventureland and Dazed and Confused in the mix too.

With appearances by Allison Janney, Maya Rudolph and Rob Corddry; not forgetting writer/director's Nat Faxon (as a creepy lifeguard) and Jim Rash (as a creepy... well, I don't know what he is but he looks creepy), when it gets released later this year, The Way, Way Back is sure to offer up many awkward reminders to those of us who spent their teenage summers wishing Sam Rockwell would turn up to act as their spirit guide and help them get girls.

ANCHORMAN 2 TRAILERS - Mirth Was A Good Choice

And lo, on this glorious day, the lord gave us not one, but two new trailers for Anchorman 2, each showing off a different series of gags that proves the old gang have still got it. Despite not showing us anything that will end up in the final movie (which technically hasn't been written yet) at least these trailers show that as long as you stick these guys together in front of a camera, they'll come up with something worth watching.

It must be said that in the 8 year interim between this film and the original, some of the cast members have got old. Will Ferrell looks far from his best in the Ron Burgundy get up and Steve Carrell's gained more than a few wrinkles. Of course this is counter balanced by Paul Rudd who, at the grand old age of 43 and hiding under a thick beard, has been frozen in time since his Clueless days. Still, they're all bringing the funny, and that's what counts.

Not hitting our cinema screens until sometime in 2013, it's reassuring to see that they're eager to build anticipation so early, as they clearly think they've got a surefire box office success this time around. The question that still needs to be answered is, why the hell did it take so long?

Obscurity Files #22 - Wake Up, Ron Burgundy

Obscurity Files aims to put the spotlight onto a series of films that time and audiences have otherwise forgotten. With Steve Carell and Paul Rudd currently starring in the new comedy Dinner For Schmucks, I thought I'd take a look at them in the lost Anchorman story. Today it's Wake Up, Ron Burgundy.
More after the jump...

Anchorman: The Legendary Voice of Ron Burgundy

You may have heard that Paramount passed on making an Anchorman sequel a couple of months back. Ludicrous, I know. Adam McKay's being doing some press rounds this week for something else, but offered an interesting tidbit of what the film could have been. It could have been a MUSICAL.

As to why Paramount passed on such an interesting project... who can say. What I will say is that I can't believe they'd pass on the chance to listen to more beautiful music from these guys. Here's an example.

I think Adam McKay should seriously consider some cheaper options for making the film. I've managed to find these genius little videos that offer two perfectly feasible options for a cheaper sequel.

Problem solved.
