The Good, the Bad and the Blu-rays

In the run up to Christmas there's always one week that's almost entirely devoted to new stand-up DVDs hitting the market. This is that week. Still, ignoring all of that lot, there has to be one or two decent films mixed in, surely?

Mmmm... Posters

This week has seen a whole bunch of posters released for the recent festival darling, Martha Marcy May Marlene. Starring Elizabeth Olsen (younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley) and recent Winter's Bone Oscar nominee John Hawkes, it tells the story of a young girl who runs away from home to join a dangerous cult. Quite how that story relates to the film's hi-tech, QR enabled posters I don't know, but they sure look cool. If you have a fancy smart phone you can  use the poster as a link to the film's trailer, or click here if you're like me and still live in the world of pay-as-you-go.

There's a hell of a lot of buzz around this one, and one things for sure, it's going to be a darn sight better than New York Minute. Check out the posters next (click to enlarge), and then head over to IMP to take a look at the motion poster.

The Oscars - What I Meant To Say Was...

If anything was proven at last night's Academy Award ceremony it's that I've clearly got an appalling taste in movies, because virtually none of the awards I thought were 'dead certs' went to the people I thought they would. Read my recap of the ceremony, next...

DRIVE ANGRY - For Your Consideration

You've got to love this new trailer for Drive Angry 3D. It just stops short of Nicolas Cage literally picking up his well earned Best Actor Oscar and throwing it back in the Academy's faces. Yeah, I know it's just a joke to go with the movie, but it's a reminder of how far (or how low) Nicolas Cage has gone since Leaving Las Vegas.

We've got to wait until February 25th to find out if the film's any good or not, but surely it's worth seeing for some over the top action from William Fichtner's bad ass, not to mention the worst hair I've seen on Nicolas Cage since he sold his own in a deal with the Devil.

Or at least I think that's what happened.

And the Oscar Goes To... Steve-O????!!!

Without a doubt the best film last year to feature someone getting slapped in the face by a giant hand, kudos to Johnny Knoxville et al for seeking the glory they so rightly deserve. You can just see them walking on stage to collect their Oscars now, Can't you? Can't you? The best thing about this Oscar campaign is how they've not bothered to put themselves forward for consideration in the Best Documentary category, the one place where I think they had a chance of a nomination (a very small chance yes, but it could happen).

If only Simon Cowell owned the Oscars too, there'd be a facebook group right now, determined to spoil his fun by having Jackass 3D take home Best Picture. But seeing as that's not the case (yet), I think it may end up being a fruitless campaign.

Methinks the Oscar voters aren't too keen on Poo Volcanoes.
