Ghostbusters in the Machine

A potentially dangerous thing to exist that could theoretically make Dan Aykroyd sit up and think about how seemingly out of date and outmoded things can still have value in the modern age (get the hint Dan, leave Ghostbusters 3 alone), we now have the theme from Ghostbusters rendered by a surprisingly melodic floppy disc drive orchestra.

The work of the catchily named YouTube user MrSolidSnake745 who previously brought us Daft Punk's Derezzed in similar fashion, it's as if the soul of Ray Parker Jr has been sucked up by some sort of audio focused Demon Seed computer, except for the fact that a) that's impossible and b) Ray Parker Jr's not dead yet.

This is a thing and I am officially happy about it.

Ghostbusters - Yes, it's true, this man has more discs.

If, like me, you snapped up a copy of Ghostbusters when it was released on Blu-ray back in 2009, prepare to feel a slight bit of regret that you didn't wait a while.

Instead of releasing the under appreciated (but admittedly nowhere near as good) Ghostbusters 2 on the Blu-ray format, the bigwigs in 'Hollywood' have decided to make us loyal, honest Ghostbusters fans have a second bite of the cherry by releasing the film in a nice new steelbook edition. What's so different about this edition you may ask? Well, from first appearances it would seem to be nothing except the tin (artwork TBC, obviously), as I'm pretty sure that's exactly the same disc that is gracing my now inferior, unloved copy of the film.

So, not only do I now own Ghostbusters on a VHS i'll never need to play, a DVD that I don't need because I bought the re-released version in slime green packaging, the re-released version in slime green packaging that became inferior with the arrival of the Blu-ray, but i'll soon be buying the same film on the same format with the same extras purely because the steelbook packaging looks pretty. Don't judge me.

If 'busting makes you feel good too, the steelbook edition is due for release on November 5th and can be pre-ordered from Amazon now.

Dan Aykroyd - Doing Weird Stuff For Entertainment Since 1975

That's the weirdest thing I've seen Dan Aykroyd in this month, and that's including Coneheads and Doctor Detroit.

Obscurity Files - Doctor Detroit

You know Dan Aykroyd, right? Lovely, wholesome Dan Aykroyd? Can you imagine him playing a pimp with a metal hand and a name that makes about as much sense as his decision to make Blues Brothers 2000? Well, Aykroyd doesn't care what you think. He went and did it any way.

Obscurity Files - Loose Cannons

Never heard of it? Well there's usually a good reason for that. Find out my opinion of Gene Hackman and Dan Aykroyd's "wacky" double act, next.

If You Go Down To The Woods Around Christmassy Time

Awww Yeah! Shit just got real, yo. They've just released the first poster for the upcoming Yogi Bear movie starring Dan Aykroyd and Justin Timberlake.
I love the fact that it looks like they've gone on a murder spree. All this poster is missing is some severed limbs and police tape.
It's a bold move to wear a shirt tie with no pants, but Yogi's definitely working it. Maybe no-one will tell him that it's weird because of his crazy psycho eyes.
I'm not so sure what Boo-Boo's looking so happy about though. What's he got hiding under that plate? Whatever it is it's put a smile on his face.

Dirty little boy.

Yogi Bear will be in cinemas this Christmas. In 3D no less!

Obscurity Files #11 - Nothing But Trouble

SLACKER Obscurity Files aims to put the spotlight onto a series of films that time and audiences have otherwise forgotten. With MacGruber in cinemas this weekend, we thought we'd look at another film from some former Saturday Night Live cast members. Today it's Dan Aykroyd's directorial debut, Nothing But Trouble.
